Former U.S. President Bill Clinton will speak in Irvine Auditorium on Feb. 28 at 11 a.m., the University announced in a press release yesterday.

His address will open the "Kerner Plus 40" Symposium, an event sponsored by the Penn Africana Studies Department, Annenberg School for Communication and the Institute for Advanced Journalism Studies at North Carolina A&T State University.

The symposium aims to recognize the 40th anniversary of the Kerner Commission's 1968 report on U.S. race relations in the 1960s. The report stated that the United States was "moving toward two societies, one black, one white - separate and unequal."

PennCard holders can purchase tickets for the event on Feb. 25 through 26 in the Annenberg Center for Performing Arts Box Office at 3680 Walnut St., or by calling (215) 898-3900.

The "Kerner Plus 40" Symposium panels will be held after Clinton's address at the Inn at Penn. They are free and open to the public. Registration for events is required and can be done online at kernerplus40.org.

Is Clinton being paid a speaking fee? Because that money, given Hillary's recent loan, could end up straight in the Clinton campaign coffers!

So, let me get this straight -- Penn discourages a presidential debate from being held on campus, but will line the pockets of a candidate who has shown a willingness to turn around and use that money for campaign purposes?

Why all the hatred for Clinton? He had sex with a lady. Seriously, who cares? The guy cares about his wife's campaign and wants to see her elected. (Continued…)

Yeah, stop hating.

You are too political about this whole thing, whats wrong with an ex-president coming to speak.

Get over yourselves.

Its a good event and we should be thankful for it. (Continued…)
