We’re used to Penn students doing great things, especially in the classroom. But we thought we’d take a moment to point out an effort that we thought showed especial ingenuity and initiative.
With the help of the Africana Studies Department, five Penn students were able to start the nation’s first Africana Studies journal showcasing undergraduate work. The students were able to fill a void that many didn’t know existed, and, through their process of creating the journal, engaged more students by educating them on a relatively unknown but broad academic field.
As fellow students often caught up in the day-to-day grind of papers, midterms and meetings, it’s often easy to forget about the extraordinary amount of long-term, in-depth research and academic work undertaken by our fellow undergrads. As another, albeit drastically different, publication on campus, we wish The Esu Review the best as it starts publishing.
